From Monday 8 March through to Friday 12 March, Jess was lucky enough to participate in an “In School Residency Program” by Opera Queensland called “Moving Opera!” .
This program brings a group of five professional artists to the school and during the week the students learn the processes of musical theatre on various levels. At the end of the workshop the students put on a performance for their family and friends.

Jessi enjoyed the week immensely and upon asking her what she learnt over the week her response was “How to breathe properly” - upon further questioning – still got the same answer – so your guess is as good as mine – however the most important thing is that she really enjoyed herself. Sadly, she now has to resume normal school classes!!
Below are some images taken from the “performance night” - Enjoy!!
The night started quietly enough, Emi as per usual was in fine form making funny faces!! However, when the lights were turned down and the Director started to explain the importance of the nights performance, Cooper put on a performance of his own. He started screaming and was inconsolable. Firstly I took him out to try and quiet him down – and then Graham swapped with me so that I may take photos of the night. Graham and Cooper soon returned to their seats and all was well!!!

Here is Emi in Fine Form at the start of the evening!!
The evenings entertainment was started with the kids being asked to “interpret” words called out by the audience……..
The first word was “Culture” – this is what the kids felt culture meant to them!!

The next word was “Remote” – but I don’t think the audience member meant THAT remote!!

This was their interpretation of “Parents”

Dania Cornelius – soprano
Telling the audience the importance of a certain breathing technique while singing – the name of said breathing technique is no longer remembered by the learned pupil!!
Vocal exercises!! To warm up the voice!!

Louise Dorsman – mezzo-soprano
Expressing the importance of “lifting up your soft palette” when you sing! Can you do that??!!
Bernard led the audience through an ‘easy’ tongue twister!! Only to be showed up by the kids not only singing it – but singing it with a staggered start ( you know like row row row your boat!!)
There is a video of this on a separate post.
Sean pretty much spoke about how wonderful the kids were and the importance of friends and family supporting the kids in their dreams or endeavours to sing and act.
The kids performing “Gossip” from “The Elixir of Love” by Donizetti (if you are interested Opera Queensland is performing this in May 2010 at the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane)
There is a video of this on a separate post.
The Professionals singing something – I can’t remember what!
Singing “Once Upon A December” from the movie Anastacia – you know the one about the youngest daughter of the last Monarch(or Czar) of Imperial Russia, who survived the execution of her family by Rasputin
After this song the kids sang with “Time to Say Goodbye” by Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman – I did not take photos of this one – but there is a video on a separate post.
Performing “Fame” from the movie of the same name!
There is a video of this on a separate post.
Jessi receiving her certificate of accomplishment from the boss of CS Energy who sponsored the workshop
Paparazzo shot!! Parents were given 5 minutes to go silly with the camera!! Like we hadn’t already??
Jess and Coop with her certificate.
Jess with Dania – after all the excitement!!
