2010 Mine Rescue Competition
Last year I took some photos of the actual competition – but this time we just went around all the ‘events’ which was held at the Outback at Isa complex http://www.outbackatisa.com.au/ and took photos of various things there instead.
These photos were taken in an area closed off to the public – but it was used by the competitors on the day. I was attempting to be arty with my shots as the colours and textures were quite impressive. However, it was a REALLY hot day (when isn’t it here?) and in the end I could not be bothered! The kids however had a great time climbing and getting dirty!!
In the area open to the public (once you have paid your entrance fee) is the Outback Garden. It has all sorts of plants that you could (theoretically) grow in your garden. Most of them have labels and reference the importance of the Kalkadoon People. http://tjiltjapuna.com.au/Kalkutungu.htm
Crossing the bridge to the waterfall
Looking over the waterfall
The waterfall from the other direction! Looks lovely doesn’t it. Sadly it was smelly and lots of mozzies! Oh and lets not forget all the cane toad tadpoles and froglets!!
Cooper’s strange lump!
For about a week or so Cooper kept complaining his neck hurt, every time you brushed his hair or he put on his tshirt – he complained. We could not see anything and thought he was just playing up!!
Not so!! I would like to say this lump just appeared one day – but in reality it just got bigger and one day was noticeable!
The Dr (who was rather officious) had no real explanation for me – but his idea of fixing things was to get the script filled and if in 5 days the lump had not gone down Coop was to have a “fine needle biopsy” – no further explanation entered into as the door was open and curt “goodbye” was given!
By the time I had paid the bill and had clicked Coop in his car seat I was hysterical – thoughts of Cooper having cancer running rampant in my head – fear almost overwhelmed me and I was unable to think it could possibly be anything else – thankfully it was something else.
I never went back to that dr – but did go back in 5 days to our usual dr and asked him to explain what had happened – his best explanation was quite simply that as Coop had been sick most of the year with one viral thing after another – it was most likely his glands were no longer able to efficiently clean out the bugs in his system and they were all getting backed up!
We kept him on the antibiotics for two more repeats just to be sure, but no “fine needle biopsy” was required – but mummy certainly needed lots of ‘medication’ for a few days!!
Fish Eye Lens + Willing Subjects = some very funny photos!!
One of the abilities of the new camera is a fish eye lens! This has created much fun and laughter as everyone tries to out do each other in the “look at me – I’m funnier” stakes.
Nothing or no one is safe…………..
My What Big EYES you’ve got!!
My What Big TEETH you’ve got!!
My What Big EARS you’ve got!!
My What a Big………………………. (sorry Jess – too funny!!)
These ‘eyes’ of Emi’s are the googly type – they use them to make creatures out of playdoh!!
Then I gave her the fish eye treatment!!
Emi’s Monkey!!
Cooper writes his name – yes it is backwards – that is just how he rolls…………….
Late in October – Emi had an Orientation day at her “big” school for next year. She will be going to Healy State School and will be in “Prep” or pre primary. She really enjoyed herself and I think she will really benefit from going to school full time – I know I will!

Although we did not ‘practise’ Halloween – the kids had a great time dressing up and trying out various scary masks!!
Late in October Jess & I walked up Pamela Street Hill with a friend of mine from work. It was a bit of an effort – but still interesting. Down there is our house – can you see it!!
Here maybe this will help. Click on the photo to make it larger – then you will see a line of four cars – the first one is a blue colour – they are in front of a tall white fence, right near the end of the fence you will see a ‘brown’ patch – this is our pedestrian front gate – all those trees you can see are in our front yard and on the fence line with our neighbours – which is the single men's quarters.
Panorama shot looking east to Cloncurry
This shot of Jess (second on left) was taken at this years “Rock, Pop, Mime Show” by the local newspaper. We bought a copy of it. Jess was not competing this time – I have just realised that I have not put up any photos of Jess in last years Rock Pop Mime show – I will get around to that!!
These photos were taken at the windup dinner for the end of Mine Rescue Competition
